The Argos will start their 3rd QB of the season this week with McLeod Bethel-Thompson behind center on Thursday night. James Franklin goes to the bench after just four starts. This moves comes as a bit of a surprise, but in reality it is what was needed to be done to spark any kind of revitalization of this Argos offense. The writing was on the wall for Franklin who lead the team to a 1-3 record in his 4 starts. He threw just one TD and six interceptions. We will see what Bethel-Thompson brings to the table Thursday night.

As for Ottawa. QB Trevor Harris was just average vs the Ticats last week. He threw for just 228 yards and failed to reach the end zone even once. The Redblacks needed 7 field goals to beat Hamilton in a game that didn’t see a single TD in it the entire first half. The up and down season for Ottawa continues, Harris is a hot and cold running QB and we may see a resurgence from him in this game – but don’t hold your breath.

I see this being much of the same that we saw in the Ottawa vs Hamilton game, very low scoring – a battle of field position with a new QB on the field and across from him a QB that has struggled to have any type of consistency. I love the UNDER here. First half and full game – and I am taking a shot at the Argos +6.5. I don’t love this Argos play, but all the numbers point to this being a closer game than what the spread is indicating.

Edmonton QB Mike Reilly had a CFL career game last week vs Montreal. Throwing four TD’s and rushing for one, Reilly is pushing to be the top rated QB in the CFL. Reilly’s average of 9.6 yards/attempt is almost unprescendented. After putting up the numbers he did last week – Reilly is poised to have a career year in the CFL and with the way the offense is going right now – I don’t know if there is a team that can stop them.

As for the Riders; Zach Collaros is returning to the field after missing six games due to injury, however – according to reports he will not start in this Week 8 match up vs the Eskis. Brandon Bridge – who is a conservative QB with a high upside – will be in the starting role for the Riders in this one. Regardless of how he plays – Saskatchewan head coach Chris Jones needs to do a better job running his defense. The Riders allowed 24pts in the 1st Q last week and it may be much of the same this week if the Riders D-line can’t figure things out.

I expect this game to be much like the Riders game vs Calgary this week – the only differences is that Sask coach Chris Jones will more than likely have his team more focused on the defensive side of the football – but again, with the way this Eskimos offense is playing – the Riders will need to make vast improvements – very quick – to be able to stave off the wrath of the Eskis in this one. Because of the way I feel about Jones having his guys ready for the start of this game – unlike last week – I am staying away from the 1H ATS side of things – but other than that, I am all over the Eskimos and the over in this one.
