Padres @ Phillies

Tonight the Philadelphia Phillies will host the San Diego Padres as both teams return from the All-Star break. On the mound for the Padres is Clayton Richard, who sits at (7-8) with a 4.43 ERA this season, but also holds a subpar 1-4 record against Philadelphia this year. Starting for the Phillies will be Jake Arrieta, having a bumpier ride this year than usual, but still in his hard-throwing zone, (7-6) with a low 3.23 ERA. However, Arrieta’s home ERA of 2.53 is where the Phillies hold a large advantage against the lowest scoring road team in the league. The Padres are LAST in runs scored away from their ballpark. Aside from the pitching advantage for Arrieta, the Padres themselves are 6-21 in their last 27. With Philly’s ability to get the bats hot quickly, I love their chances to get ahead early and stay ahead for a blowout win. The run line provides much more value than the ML currently sitting at (-160). I’m all over Philly tonight and Arrieta to shine after the break.

San Fransisco Giants @ Oakland A’s

The SF Giants begin the second half of their season against the Oakland Athletics tonight in a very intriguing pitching duel between two velocity driven right handed pitchers. Starting for the Giants is Dereck Rodriguez, a gem for the Giants this year, holding a (4-1) record with a very low 2.89 ERA. His previous game, he relieved 3 innings scoreless and added 3 K’s to earn the win. For Oakland, the starter is the hard throwing Edwin Jackson, who can be all over the place at times, but holds a 1-1 record with a 2.59 ERA in few starts for the A’s. I don’t see a huge edge pitching wise, nor offensively, as both teams enter the second half of the season on the right trend; especially Oakland. With Buster Posey questionable to be in the Giants lineup tonight, and these two pitchers on the mound, I am all over the UNDER 9 in this matchup. Not to mention the one gem that makes this under so enticing…in their last 9 ROAD games, the UNDER has gone 8-1 for the Giants. I love the trend to continue in Oakland tonight. I’m with the under here.
